Description
Native American Plains War Club Skull cracker, 1800's period.A truly authentic and awesome piece of history to add to your collection!!
Many times we see skull crackers with intricate beadwork wrapped around the entire length of the handle/ shaft. The reality is, a handle /shaft wrapped in beadwork is not something you would actually bring into battle. Beads were too costly!
Those war clubs are decorative at best in most instances. And I own a few very old and beautifully beaded war clubs as well, they are beautiful! This is not that.
This war club offers no beadwork! What it does offer, is the simplicity of plains warfare, being able to reach out and touch your enemy!
Measuring approximately 24" inches, this war club offers the reach and capability of a true weapon of war for hand to hand combat.
The stone on the head of this skull crackers is beautifully carved and is a dark grey stone with multiple "strike markings". No doubt this would have caused serious trauma to the enemy!
There appears to be no significant damage to this war club. There is minor cracking on the handle as can be seen in the photos. No doubt that is due to slight deterioration and drying out over time. The handle or shaft of this club looks to have been wrapped with rawhide and that is what shows age and cracking.
Still a usable weapon in its time, this war club is better suited to be displayed on a wall or in a glass case of someone's collection. A truly unique conversation piece.
The patina around the stone and wrapping is both a characteristic and evidence of the authenticity and age of this piece. It appears to be in good strong condition. This war club was purchased with another war club that had great patina and history and sold with positive feedback. This war club is guaranteed authentic.
Please examine the photos, and do not hesitate to request additional photos so you can make an educated bid or purchase.
I take my time with certain listings. This being one of them. Not because this is a very expensive item, although not cheap, there are reproductions that can demand more money!
But I believe the simple plain appearance of this club, along with the obvious signs of wear and age, make this such a one of a kind and unique piece, I just want to impress upon the fact that in most cases, these coming to the market are rare. I have debated keeping this versus selling it, but have decided to put it out to the market and see what happens.
Bid with confidence knowing that this will surely add to your private collection!
**note- the small metallic looking tie at the top of the club was attached to a tag from the original purchase. This just needs to be untwisted off. It has nothing to do with the integrity of the club nor is it there to hold anything together.
