    Description

    Amazing spontoon tomahawk !
This is a large hand forged axe with a long list of features let’s start with the dimensions this axe is 10 1/4 inches tall ! The widest point of the bladed is 2 3/4 inches . From the point of the blade to the base of the eye is 6 “ the eye is 1 3/4 inches long by 3/4 inches wide .
The form and shape are awsome the tip of the blade has been either broken off during period use or was removed on purpose for Safty as was common practice during the period . The filed off tip edges have the same dark even patina as the rest of the axe as well as the inner edges of the heart shape cut out . So none of the alterations were made before the patina of the axe .
There is a heart shape cut out in the center of the blade and the eye as well as the bowel has file work and the eye lobes or the “ processes “ are both still intact and the handle is 20 1/4 inches long and has a flare feel to it at both ends . This handle is an older replacement in my opinion , the handle is still solid but has dried a bit over the years as to be expected . The handle has 40 square shank brass tacks and there is a real sinew wrap at the base of the handle where perhaps a mouth peace wants existed long since gone now .
If one looks in the inner space of the heart cut out you will see a lap wield line where the sides of the blade were hammering into one . This is a great period axe ! The Patina is dark and rich with pitting throughout and the patina covers and reaches every crack inseam evenly
