    Authentic Blackfoot Skinning/Scalping Knife
THE  ITEM UP FOR SALE :
COA – BLACKFOOT SCALP OR SKINNIG KNIFE WITH TACKED SHEATH BUTLER C.O.A. –MUSEUM GRADE! Up for sale is a Blackfoot scalping or skinning type knife with brass tacked leather sheath that fits the knife perfectly. This knife and sheath date to the Plains Protohistoric period (300-150 B.P.) The total length of the knife is 9-1/2”” including the 4-3/4” handle. The knife has a two piece wood handle wrapped in leather and tied with animal sinew. The 9-5/8” by 3-15/16” sheath is brain tanned leather with a large belt hole, all tacked down with brass rivets. The sheath has been hardened with time, nothing loose, and the brass rivets are oxidized providing undeniable evidence of age.
This is an EX Robert E. Peterson Collection piece and was entry number 112 in his catalog ( Provenance).
Sent out for authentication to the reputable firm, Butler Artifact Authentication and it papered without any issues and received a Museum Grade! The COA gives a great accounting of how the Plains Indian tribes would have acquired and used this artifact.
I have scanned thru Native American Knives for years and you will never find another quite like this. The fit and finish, the feel in the hand -- remarkable.
