Circa 1830, Spontoon pipe tomahawk.  Head of forged iron, narrow diamond shaped blade, once sharpened point.  Round oval eye of which at top, a file cut V neck which rests a barrel shaped pipe bowl.  Total height of ax head is 7.5" tall.  A round ash stem,  about 7/8'ths inch thickness and under 22.5" long is added.  This stem is further decorated with hot filing marks around its whole diameter in a pleasing dark and light tan color.  Center hole though stem is for smoking.  Bowl shows much use from smoking.  Pipe tomahawk shows much use and great patination for its age.  This Spontoon pipe tomahawk is shown on page 100, #227 in " Tomahawks Pipes Axes of the American Frontier by John baldwin.  ( Ex.: Bohm Collection).
